In November 2024, Mrs. Christiana Nicolaou, Assistant Professor at the Cyprus University of Technology, Nursing Department, participated in the 17th European Public Health Conference in Lisbon, Portugal. This prestigious event provided an excellent platform for sharing insights and exploring emerging trends in public health and healthcare education.
During the conference, Mrs. Nicolaou presented the Virtual Children’s Hospital for Learning Pediatric Nursing project to a diverse audience of academics and healthcare professionals. The presentation highlighted the innovative use of virtual platforms in enhancing pediatric nursing education and improving nursing competencies.
Mrs. Christiana Nicolaou showcased the project’s aim to foster deeper understanding and skills in pediatric nursing, through immersive virtual experiences, with the development of the Virtual Reality Learning Environment (VRLE), a virtual children’s hospital designed to support pediatric nursing learning in areas such as neonatal care, safe medication administration in children, pediatric respiratory diseases, and child-centered care.
Additionally, Mrs. Nicolaou demonstrated how the virtual children’s hospital will facilitate international collaboration among students and educators. Through lectures and interactive sessions, the VRLE will allow for the sharing and comparison of culture-specific healthcare practices, underscoring the project’s commitment to global cooperation and knowledge exchange.
This participation marks a significant step in promoting the integration of virtual reality in healthcare education, paving the way for future innovations in nursing and medical training.
