In June 2025, Dr. Christiana Nicolaou, Assistant Professor at the Nursing Department of Cyprus University of Technology, participated in the 2nd Hellenic Pediatric conference in Athens, Greece. The conference focused on family center pediatric care and further featured presentations on how technological applications can advance pediatric nursing care education.
During the conference, Dr. Christian Nicolaou presented the Virtual Children’s Hospital for Learning Pediatric Nursing project to a diverse audience of academics, healthcare professionals and students.
Her presentation exhibited the project’s objectives and activities and further highlighted its already reached goals, such as the development of its four modules (design and learning materials) in pediatric nursing care (Child as a patient, Neonatal care, Children’s medical administration and Respiratory conditions – Treatment) and the development of the Virtual Reality Learning Environment (VRLE – The Application) that serves as the project’s vehicle for increasing students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the modules domains.
In addition, this opportunity allowed Dr. Christiana Nicolaou to present the preliminary results from the first completed VRLE piloting session. These results are based on data collected from the participating students in Cyprus, indicating a satisfactory assessment of the content of the modules, relevance of the simulations and VRLE capacity to increase pediatric nursing knowledge and skills.
The conference enhanced the project’s visibility and provided valuable opportunities to expand its network of professionals and academics
